LeNisha Wright has been teaching secondary math in the public schools for 19 years. She loves her students and loves teaching math. LeNisha has a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary and Secondary Education, a Level 4 Math Endorsement, and a Master’s degree in Math Education. She was fortunate to have a mentor with similar credentials who spent countless hours sharing with her his methods, his secrets, and teaching her “how to teach” to have the same success in her own classroom.
LeNisha’s mentor, Steve Rich, taught mathematics in the public schools and at the university level for nearly six decades. His methods of teaching proved to be very effective in the classroom and his scores were consistently among the highest in the state. He perfected a unique way of teaching math to both the right and left-brain learners by using color and stories to explain difficult math concepts. One of his now famous stories used to teach solving 2-step equations, “Boyfriends, Pretty Girls, and Little Brothers” is used by many math teachers and remembered by thousands of students. LeNisha was fortunate to learn his methods and apply them in her own classroom, resulting in a similar success rate with her own students. Like her mentor, LeNisha’s students consistently score among the highest in the district and the state.
When Common Core was implemented in public schools in 2010, LeNisha quickly noticed the frustrations of both parents and students with understanding the subject of math. Teachers struggled with the new style of teaching, and many parents could no longer help their children with math homework. As a result, many students wrestled with basic math concepts on their own. That’s when Just Ace It! Math began. For the next five years, and with permission from her mentor, LeNisha took everything Mr. Rich taught her combined with the methods she discovered on her own and wrote resource books for her students. The books contained full color math notes and step-by-step examples of concepts being taught in her classroom. Going one step further she recorded videos for every lesson. Her students found success and she has been applying these principles with continued success.
After more than 75 years of combined teaching experience with her mentor’s 57 years and LeNisha’s nearly 20 years of service, 15,000 students have benefited and found success in math with these tried and tested methods. LeNisha invites you to join her in the Just Ace It! Math journey as she continues to tweak, adjust, and perfect this program designed to help learners be successful in math. She knows you too can find success implementing these concepts. Hope to see you around!
